Watch this video on what to do if Mount Agung in Bali erupts

The Bali Tourism Board Hospitality Center has created a levelheaded and well-informed video advising Bali visitors on preparations in place and what to expect in the event that a future eruption of Mount Agung results in the closure of Bali’s airport.

Avoiding the sensationalism that too often clouds any discussion of the Mount Agung Volcano, the video reminds the public that even in the worst-case scientific model and scenarios only 2% of the Island’s land mass would be affected by a major eruption of Mount Agung. Moreover, the limited areas that would be damaged in an eruption are some 70-kilometers from South Bali’s major tourism enclaves.

In fact, as explained by the video, the greatest threat to tourist visitors posed by Mount Agung is if the volcanic ash expelled into the upper atmosphere is deemed a threat to plans on approach and departure paths to Bali and results in Bali’s Airport being closed.

This occurred on November 25, 2017, when Bali’s Airport was closed for 2.5-days.

In the event that the Airport closes again, visitors in Bali have two choices. First, they can simply sit back and relax at a hotel while waiting for the airport to reopen. Many hotels are offering one night free to passengers booked on canceled flights and substantial discounts for additional nights spent at the property while waiting for the airport to resume operations. Secondly, those Island visitors unable to wait for the airport to re-open can board buses provided by the government for a free transfer to an alternate airport in Lombok or Java.
