It’s been a wild ride for Genting Skyworlds Theme Park, whose long-awaited opening has been delayed several times over the past years due to legal tussles over intellectual properties, name changes, and impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.
But opening day finally arrived for the Genting Skyworlds Theme Park when it threw open its door to the public on 8 February.
Part of Resorts World Genting (RWG), the 10.5ha outdoor theme park is touted to be a game-changing attraction that will put Malaysia and the state of Pahang on the world tourism map.
Built to the tune of over US$800 million, Genting Skyworlds is set at an elevation of 1,829m above sea level, featuring 26 rides and attractions suitable for all ages.
Guests can expect an immersive experience across nine different movie- and adventure-themed “worlds”, from Eagle Mountain, Central Park, Liberty Lane, Robots Rivet Town, Andromeda Base, Ice Age, Studio Plaza, Epic and Rio. Each world features a host of rides and attractions, complemented by an array of themed retail, dining and entertainment experiences.
More fun, less waiting with virtual queues
In what is said to be “a first for Southeast Asia”, Genting Skyworlds Theme Park has also rolled out an app integrated with the Virtual Queue (VQ) technology to complement their time at the attraction.
“Genting SkyWorlds VQ also allows guests to create boarding groups for multiple ticket holders, view recommended itineraries based on personal preferences, and receive real-time alerts for attraction reservations, availability, and must-see entertainment,” said Greg Pearn, Vice President, Head – Theme Park Operations at RWG.
Not only is the app a comprehensive guide to Genting SkyWorlds with real-time information, it also enables guests to navigate and experience the park virtually prior to arrival, giving a head-start on what to do, where to go and how to get there.
Among other features, guests will be able to check wait times for rides, attractions and shows; receive promotional offers and discount vouchers; discover dining, shopping, games, and advanced Photo+ service.
The Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park mobile app is available for free on Google Play, Apple App Store and Huawei AppGallery.
First look and rides at Genting SkyWorlds
Having had a chance to tour the attraction on the pre-opening day, I personally found the app to be very useful in getting my bearings around the park. It allowed me to maximise my time with the interactive map and enjoy more of the attractions.
The best part about the app is knowing the estimated waiting time for each attraction and experience, which visitors can take into account when they book the next available time slots through the VQ option, in turn cutting down waiting time at each spot and allowing visitors to explore more of the park’s offerings.
And while some rides had technical issues and a few others are not operational yet—typical teething issues for newly opened parks—the rides during the media preview I went on proved very exciting and entertaining.
Not to be missed are the excellent 4D experience of Independence Day (you might get somewhat queasy) and the fun interactive shoot-em-up ride of Night at the Museum. And you might actually see some familiar faces being part of that experience.
Ticket sales have gone live and the park is offering a 20% discount from its published rates for bookings from 8 February to 31 March 2022. During the soft opening period, there will be complimentary VQ and Photo+ access available, where guests can download and share unlimited digital photo contents.
