Hyatt Hotels Corporation is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to acquire boutique hotel operator Standard International, according to sources familiar with the matter. This potential acquisition aligns with Hyatt’s recent strategy of expanding its luxury property portfolio in leisure destinations.

Standard International operates hotels in several key locations including Singapore, Bangkok, Maldives, Melbourne and London. However, sources caution that while talks are advanced, no deal has been finalised and negotiations could still fall through.

When asked for comment, a Hyatt spokesperson declined to address the specific talks but stated the company remains committed to “asset-light growth through both organic growth and strategic acquisitions.” Standard International, which counts Thai real estate firm Sansiri among its investors, did not provide an immediate comment.

Under CEO Mark Hoplamazian, Hyatt has been actively acquiring brands in recent years, including Alila, Thompson Hotels, and Apple Leisure Group’s all-inclusive portfolio. These acquisitions have accelerated Hyatt’s transition towards a business model focused on licensing brands to third-party investors while expanding its network of high-end properties to attract loyalty members.

The Standard brand, originally developed by Andre Balazs, is known for its nightlife-oriented properties, including a notable hotel straddling New York’s High Line.
