Now open: Hiliwatu Bali Ubud joins Indonesia’s Tribute Portfolio by Marriott

On the 15th January 2026, Marriott Bonvoy’s Tribute Portfolio successfully expanded its global footprint with the opening of Hiliwatu Bali Ubud, a Tribute Portfolio Resort.

Located in the quiet hills of Bresela, Gianyar, Hiliwatu’s name is inspired by the land itself. “Hili” means hill, and “Watu” means stone – a beautiful homage to strength, grounding and natural grace. Designed to connect spirit and space, the resort feels like a natural conversation between the landscape and local life. Every detail of Hiliwatu tells a story, from the locally sourced timber to the authentic Balinese craftsmanship.

“I am proud to announce the opening of Hiliwatu Bali Ubud, a Tribute Portfolio Resort. This marks another important chapter for the brand in Indonesia,” said Ramesh Jackson, Regional Vice President, Indonesia and Malaysia, Marriott International. “Tribute Portfolio brings together independent hotels with distinctive stories, creative expression and a spirit of connection. Ubud, with its artistic heritage and deep sense of harmony, is an ideal setting for a brand that celebrates individuality and character. With the opening of Hiliwatu, we continue to expand our Tribute Portfolio presence and strengthen our commitment to offering one-of-a-kind stays that resonate deeply with travellers.”

A Sanctuary With Meaning

Set across 26,000 square meters of lush landscape, Hiliwatu is a living story of admiration and reverence for Bali’s timeless spirit. Each space perfectly captures Ubud’s natural rhythm. Its 38 intimate sanctuaries, including 24 suite rooms, 12 one-bedroom villas, one three-bedroom villa, and one four-bedroom villa, blend effortlessly into the hillside.

The 24-metre-high lobby is a sculptural masterpiece featuring three inviting tiers of cascading pools. Nearby, you’ll discover a tranquil pond as well as a stunning architectural landmark which houses the wedding chapel, spa and dining spaces all under one roof. The structure reflects the spiritual balance of Rwa Bhineda, where stillness and discovery, stone and water, harmoniously come together.

Elevate your arrival via the resort’s heliport, offering 360-degree views of Ubud’s rolling hills, whilst curated works by emerging Balinese artists infuse each space with storytelling. The heart of the resort, The Pavilion, offers an open-air chapel that shifts from a morning wellness retreat to a dining hub at dusk. This versatile setting also serves as a graceful space for intimate weddings.

Honouring The Land Through Culinary Philosophy

Hiliwatu’s dining experience showcases farm-to-table principles by supporting local farmers and preserving Ubud’s rich agricultural heritage.

Discover Tapis, which honours Balinese heritage with the use of fresh ingredients straight from nearby partnering farms. Meanwhile, Nira is a sky-high oasis where Balinese soul meets Mediterranean zest, excellent for sipping and savouring as the sun goes down.

Experience fire-inspired dining shaped by the seasons and the chef’s unique vision at the resort’s signature restaurant, Omber. Guests can enjoy a mix of Mediterranean grill favourites and classic steakhouse-style cuisine. Complementing the dining ambience is a chic pool bar overlooking the rice terraces, welcoming guests with curated events and creative drinks inspired by Ubud’s local flavours.

The Rhythm Of Nature, Reimagined

At Samya Wellness, the elements of stone and water set the stage for a transformative journey. The spa echoes Ubud’s spirit as a haven where wellness is a way of life. The spa offers mineral-rich rituals, crystal meditations, and yoga in the fresh air. Every treatment uses 100% natural, local ingredients, inviting guests to surrender to their natural state of harmony.

The resort also offers 24-hour fitness facilities, intimate event spaces, and immersive experiences that connect guests with the local Bresela community. You can explore cultural landmarks such as the Ubud Palace, Tegallalang Rice Fields and the Ayung River. Or, slow down and let the sights and sounds of the forest take over from your private balcony.

Community & Sustainability At Its Heart

Living by its principle of purposeful hospitality, Hiliwatu offers curated cultural experiences, such as traditional craft workshops and guided village visits, highlighting local rituals and sustainable farming.

Sustainability is woven into the property, from eco-friendly energy systems to locally sourced materials. At the resort, wellness goes hand-in-hand with environmental stewardship. Every stay is designed to nurture both you and the planet.

Hiliwatu is a resort born from awe for nature, for craftsmanship, and for connection,” said Yudi Hendarsyah, General Manager of Hiliwatu, Bali Ubud. “Every path, every stone, and every detail was designed to echo Ubud’s heartbeat. Through our spaces, our people, and our experiences, we open a new door to nature’s rhythm and invite guests to find balance. Our team is ready to welcome travellers from around the world with the warmth, sincerity and spirit that define Ubud.”
