Minor Hotels checks into medical wellness space with its first wellness retreat in Bangkok

Minor Hotels will soon enter into the medical wellness space when its new RAKxa Fully Integrative Wellness and Medical Retreat launches in December 2020.

RAKxa is conceived as a fully sustainable medical wellness retreat within Bang Krachao on the Chao Praya River, known as Bangkok’s ‘Green Lung’, with an aim to meld science and tradition and to deliver bespoke healthcare in a relaxing environment.

Of the 60 private villas, 27 garden villas spanning 80sqm will first open to guests from December, while pool villas and a presidential villa are set to launch in early 2021.  The villas, upholstered in Jim Thomson silks and furnished with handcrafted pieces, will be managed by Minor Hotels.

The upcoming development is the result of a new partnership with MK Real Estate Development and VitalLife Scientific Wellness Centre (a subsidiary of Bumrungrad International Hospital).

William E Heinecke, Chairman & Founder of Minor International, owning company of Minor Hotels, described the medical wellness retreat will be designed at a level “unseen before”. He said, “At a time when customers are reprioritising their health, the hospitality industry’s pivot to wellness is no longer a trend but a necessity. Refocusing on health is happening on the community level too, making the arrival of pioneering concepts such as RAKxa all the more important.”

“As customers choose to defer to respected healthcare professionals in matters of wellness and lifestyle change, our combined expertise will be of tremendous value to Thai residents and visitors alike,” continued Heinecke. “Sophisticated and well-versed in holistic therapies, today’s luxury travellers expect their wellness programmes to address health issues spanning the entire life cycle, rather than merely offer jetlag remedies.”

Separated from the rest of Bangkok by a winding river, RAKxa is accessible by both boat and car and is located approximately an hour from both Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang International Airports.

Key features of the Rakxa retreat include the VitalLife’s Scientific Wellness Clinic, staffed by internationally trained medical doctors using a complete holistic approach to identify a picture of your health; RAKxa Jai – Holistic Wellness Centre, where VitalLife medical doctors work alongside experts in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Traditional Thai Medicine, Ayurveda and Energy Healing; and RAKxa’s Medical Gym, RAKxa Gaya, is home to a team of expert physiotherapists and exercise physiologists.

RAKxa’s wellness cuisine is centred on the value of seasonality and the benefits of sustainable eating. There will be two restaurants at RAKxa, with the main restaurant Unam serving international healthy cuisine without compromising on taste, and the speciality Asian restaurant Ukhao’s tasting menus paying homage to cuisines of neighbouring Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and China.
