Kimpton Ubud debut planned for late 2026

IHG Hotels & Resorts has revealed details of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, a 101-key luxury lifestyle property scheduled to open in Indonesia later in 2026.

The Kimpton Ubud debut will take place later in 2026 with the opening of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, marking the luxury lifestyle brand’s entry into Indonesia. Parent company IHG Hotels & Resorts has released the first details of the 101-key property, which will combine accommodation, dining, wellness and social spaces.

Located on Jalan Bisma, the hotel will operate within walking distance of several of Ubud’s main cultural landmarks. These include Ubud Art Market, Ubud Palace and the Water Palace, which was designed by Balinese master artist I Gusti Nyoman Lempad.

The development will sit alongside the Wos River and follow the contours of Ubud’s hillside and riverside landscape. As a result, the property’s design will incorporate the surrounding terrain into its architecture, interiors and guest circulation.

Accommodation and brand services

Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will feature 101 rooms, suites and villas. The accommodation mix will include essential rooms, larger pool suites and private pool villas.

The hotel will also introduce several established Kimpton services to the Indonesian market. These include the complimentary “Forgot It, We’ve Got It!” programme, which provides a selection of frequently requested personal and travel items.

In addition, Kimpton Kickstart will offer coffee, tea and pastries each day. The hotel will also host Kimpton Social, the brand’s evening gathering format centred on interaction between hotel users and the local community.

Austin Jones has been appointed General Manager of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud. He has previously contributed to the development and operation of almost a dozen Kimpton properties and will oversee the brand’s first hotel in Indonesia.

“It’s an honor to introduce Kimpton to Indonesia in a place as culturally rich and creatively alive as Ubud,” said Jones. “Kimpton Suntaya is designed to feel open, soulful, and connected, not just to the landscape, but to the people who live and travel here. We want this hotel to become a vibrant gathering place where guests and locals alike can experience Bali in a way that feels effortless, personal, and unscripted.”

Five food and beverage concepts

The hotel’s food and beverage programme will include five dining destinations. Among them, Imamura Ubud will operate as an intimate omakase restaurant led by Michelin-starred chef Hirofumi Imamura.

The chef will also oversee Shaku by Imamura. The second concept will offer a contemporary interpretation of Japanese izakaya dining within the hotel’s wider restaurant portfolio.

The five-venue structure will position food and beverage as a significant component of the property’s operating model. Moreover, the concepts will support the hotel’s intention to serve both the accommodation market and Ubud’s wider social and dining sector.

Wellness and fitness facilities

Wellness operations at Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will include Sakshi Spa, which will draw on Balinese healing traditions. The treatment programme will use locally influenced rituals across its spa services.

The property will also house a two-storey fitness studio and dedicated recovery facilities. These areas will support movement-based programmes and contrast-therapy experiences as part of the hotel’s lifestyle and wellness offering.

Consequently, the wellness facilities will extend beyond conventional spa treatments. The programme will combine physical training, recovery and Balinese-inspired therapies within a single hotel operation.

Design influenced by Balinese ceremonies

Denton Corker Marshall designed the property as a contemporary interpretation of Balinese ceremonial processions. The architectural concept uses movement, rhythm and collective activity as references for the building’s structure and spatial organisation.

The property will follow the natural levels of the hillside and riverfront site. Meanwhile, the façade and structural rhythm will reflect the movement associated with community gatherings and ceremonies in Balinese culture.

The riverside setting also influenced the interior and architectural concept. Flowing water represents calm and continuity, while the surrounding landscape provides the contrasting elements of energy and movement.

The name “Suntaya”, pronounced “SOON-TIE-yah”, reflects the same balance. It draws inspiration from the Sanskrit-derived terms Suniya, meaning stillness, and Taya, meaning vitality.

According to the hotel’s development concept, the name represents Ubud’s relationship between retreat and social activity. This combination will shape the way the property uses accommodation, wellness, dining and communal areas.

Kimpton expands its Asian portfolio

The Kimpton brand was founded by Bill Kimpton in San Francisco in 1981. It developed around individually designed hotels and later expanded internationally as part of IHG’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio.

Kimpton entered Asia with the opening of Kimpton Da’An in Taipei. Since then, the brand has expanded through properties including Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok and Kimpton Kitalay Samui in Thailand.

Its regional portfolio also includes Kimpton Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong and Kimpton Naluria Kuala Lumpur. The Kimpton Ubud debut will extend this presence into Indonesia and add a new property in one of Bali’s established hospitality markets.

Further Kimpton openings scheduled for 2026 include Kimpton Mayfair Adelaide, Kimpton Era Midtown New York, Kimpton De Post Rotterdam and Kimpton Shanghai 9 Tree Art Center. Together, these projects form part of the brand’s continued expansion across Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America.
