JW Marriott lands on an atoll in the Maldives

The JW Marriott brand has made its debut in the Maldives with the opening of JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa on Vagaru island, Shaviyani atoll.

The resort, located 55 minutes via seaplane from the capital, Male, features 60 villas, starting at approximately 2,520 sq.ft, which include private pools and wooden sunbathing decks.

Split-level Duplex Beach Pool Villa are designed to cater to multigenerational families, offering separate lounges, bedrooms and bathrooms.

Thatched roofs on villas are reminiscent of inverted dhoni boats, the traditional Maldivian wooden fishing vessels, and slanted roof tips recall white herons dipping their heads into the water.
