ISS Indonesia seeks to expand Catering arm

Jakarta. ISS Indonesia, a local subsidiary of Copenhagen-based facility services company, seeks to expand its catering services for offices, hospitals and schools, to diversify its business, an executive said on Wednesday (18/10).

“Globally, ISS is quite strong in catering, but here the company is known more for its cleaning or parking services,” ISS Indonesia head of management Bendady Pramono said.

ISS Indonesia provides chefs, cooks and other kitchen assistants to off-site mining and manufacturing facilities. As the commodity sector began to slow, the company decided to offer city-wide lunch services by opening a new central kitchen in Jakarta.

In May, the company opened a 300 square meter kitchen facility on a 1,700 square meter plot in Halim, East Jakarta, which is able to prepare 7,500 lunch portions a day. Today the kitchen cooks 1,000 portions a day.

“Halim has a convenient access to industrial estates and facilities in Pasar Rebo, Jalan Raya Bogor and Pulo Gadung,” Bendady said.

He added that he wants to expand ISS Indonesia’s catering services further to hospitals, campuses, schools and offices.

“We have not handled hospitals yet … But I have done it previously,” Bendady said.

Bendady is a seasoned executive in the catering sector. He previously led Lippo’s hospital catering arm Sunshine Food International and was the chief executive of Garuda Indonesia’s airline catering Aerofood.

He said ISS is going to offer integrated services to its clients by 2020, which means that, for example, it will provide parking management, security and catering in one package.

The company is going to employ 100,000 people by 2020, that compared with 62,000 it employs today. By this, ISS Indonesia will become the group’s biggest employer. ISS Indonesia’s catering services are currently operated by 1,104 employees.

ISS Indonesia ranks 20th in its financial contribution to ISS Global, which has more than 50 branches all over the world.
