Fairmont Hotels & Resorts will expand its presence in Japan with the opening of Fairmont Niseko in early 2028, marking the luxury brand’s second property in the country after the debut of Fairmont Tokyo last year.
“Niseko’s international renown for its exceptional powder snow makes it one of the world’s premier luxury ski destinations, attracting enthusiasts from across the globe,” said Omer Acar, CEO, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.
Fairmont said the project builds on its expertise in luxury mountain and golf resorts while strengthening its footprint in Asia’s growing premium travel market.
Acar added that the new resort would pay particular attention to preserving Niseko’s natural environment.
Developed in partnership with J-Will Partners, the 165-key resort will occupy a nine-acre forest site between Mount Yotei and Mount Annupuri.
Facilities will include two restaurants, a spa and wellness centre, traditional onsen, a kids’ club and authentic onsen experiences, catering to both leisure travellers and families.
Heading out, guests may choose from an array of outdoor experiences, including skiing, golf, with multiple dining options in both nearby Niseko Village and Hirafu.
Accessibility to Niseko is also expected to improve over the longer term with the planned extension of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, which is scheduled for completion in 2038 and will connect Kutchan and Sapporo in around 25 minutes. Increased international services at New Chitose Airport are also expected to support future inbound demand.
