Hilton has signed its first hotel in Batam, with the 199-room Hilton Garden Inn Batam City Centre scheduled to open in 2028.
Hilton has signed its first property in Indonesia’s Batam, with the new Hilton Batam hotel scheduled to open in 2028. Hilton Garden Inn Batam City Centre will add 199 rooms to the group’s growing portfolio in Indonesia.
PT. Sabang Raya Investama will develop the hotel, which will operate under the Hilton Garden Inn brand. The project also strengthens Hilton’s wider expansion across South East Asia.
The property will sit in central Batam, providing access to commercial, retail and administrative districts. These include Lubuk Baja and Batam Centre.
Hotel targets business, MICE and leisure demand
The Hilton Batam hotel will target several travel segments. These include corporate travellers, meetings and events, weekend leisure visitors, wellness and golf travellers, and guests making medical-related stays.
Batam has developed as a short-haul destination for visitors from Singapore and Malaysia. Meanwhile, government, industrial and MICE activity also supports demand on the island. The hotel site is within Batam’s Central Business District. It will provide access to ferry terminals linking the island with Singapore and Malaysia, as well as industrial estates and Hang Nadim International Airport.
Maria Ariizumi, vice president, Development, South East Asia & Australasia, said:
“Batam continues to grow as an important business and leisure destination, supported by its close proximity to Singapore and Malaysia, strong connectivity and expanding visitor economy,” said Maria Ariizumi, vice president, Development, South East Asia & Australasia. “The signing of Hilton Garden Inn Batam City Centre marks our debut in Batam and reinforces our commitment to growing in high-potential destinations across Indonesia.”
Hilton Garden Inn Batam to offer 199 rooms
The hotel will feature 199 guestrooms, including standard rooms, family rooms and suites. Food and beverage facilities will include an all-day dining restaurant and a bar. Guests will also have access to a fitness centre and swimming pool.
The property will also include more than 900 square metres of meeting and event space. Facilities will comprise a ballroom and six meeting rooms. As a result, the hotel will add new capacity for corporate meetings and events alongside its leisure offer.
Hilton Garden Inn is Hilton’s upscale brand serving business, leisure, solo and family travellers. The brand focuses on accommodation and amenities designed around comfort and consistency.
Developer backs Batam’s regional tourism growth
Sukirman Djohan, President Director, PT. Sabang Raya Investama, said:
“Partnering with Hilton represents an exciting milestone for us as we bring an internationally recognized hospitality brand to Batam,” said Sukirman Djohan, President Director, PT. Sabang Raya Investama. “We believe Hilton Garden Inn Batam City Centre will cater to the needs of modern business and leisure travellers while supporting Batam’s continued growth as a regional destination.”
The development combines access to Batam’s commercial districts with links to nearby international markets. Moreover, its location positions the property for both short-stay leisure traffic and corporate demand.
Weekend travel from Singapore and Malaysia remains an important segment for Batam. At the same time, industrial activity and MICE demand broaden the island’s visitor base.
Hilton expands development pipeline in Indonesia
The signing strengthens Hilton’s growth in Indonesia. The company currently operates 18 hotels in the country and has another 16 properties in the pipeline.
The Hilton Batam hotel will therefore add another destination to the group’s Indonesian network when it opens in 2028.
For Batam, the project will introduce Hilton Garden Inn while adding accommodation and meeting capacity in the city centre. It will also serve travellers using the island’s ferry connections, airport and expanding business infrastructure.
