Marriott International has planted its first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Shanghai, marking the ultraluxe flag’s first urban location.

“Ritz-Carlton Reserve has always been about creating rare, deeply personal experiences that could only exist in their destination,” said Tina Edmundson, president of Luxury, Marriott International.

“Shanghai is a city unlike any other, where extraordinary heritage and culture exist alongside incredible creativity, energy and global influence. We see a remarkable opportunity to create a true sanctuary within that energy – one that feels unmistakably of Shanghai, while offering the highly bespoke, transformative experiences that make Reserve so special.”

Scheduled to open in 2030, the newbuild will be constructed in partnership with Shanghai SIIC North Bund New Landmark Construction and Development Co., Ltd, as part of a mixed-use, high-rise development along Shanghai’s North Bund waterfront.

The 480metres, 103-floor building will include retail and office space, residences and an observatory deck.

Guests can check into one of the 110 guest rooms and suites, with many overlooking the Bund and Huangpu River.

Amenities include an indoor swimming pool, fitness center, spa and wellness retreat, alongside a curated dining collection ranging from a specialty restaurant, Chinese dining experiences, a lobby lounge, and a bespoke bar.

The hotel’s completion will also make Shanghai the only city worldwide to house all eight of Marriott International’s luxury brands: The Ritz-Carlton, Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, Edition, The Luxury Collection, JW Marriott and W Hotels.
