Young Indonesian Hoteliers win new business venture contest with Hiking and Camping App

Jakarta. Two students from Bandung’s National Hotel Institute, Gita Esthi and Nadya Puspita, won the 2017 National New Business Venture Plan competition held by Telkom University’s student association on Saturday (10/06) with their proposal for a new hiking and camping app.

NHI chancellor Anang Sutono said the final stage of the competition took in 12 finalists from universities across Indonesia. The Bandung institute is one of the first state-owned hospitality schools in Indonesia, established in 1959.

“We’re happy our students won,” Anang said.

The two NHI students won after their business proposal for a hiking and camping app called HiCamp was judged to be the most impressive.

“HiCamp is a mobile application that can function as a sort of middle-man between hikers and vendors that supply hiking and camping gears as well as guides. It’s an interesting idea,” Anang said.

The HiCamp app features HiRent, a tool to rent gears, and HiBuy to purchase them. The HiNews feature gives users constantly updated news on hiking and camping sites and conditions. HiFriends connects users with other experienced hikers and campers.

Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said young graduates should be able to create their own businesses and become entrepreneurs like Gita and Nadya.

“Become entrepreneurs, create new jobs. That should be everyone’s goal,” Arief said.
