Fake results could cause real problems for travel

The negative Covid-19 test result, purportedly from a company called Tri-Alta Laboratory Corp., would look real enough to most eyes. It even has a disclaimer at the bottom cautioning that a negative test doesn’t rule out infection.

But the document, which was obtained by its user on the dark web, is actually a fraud, though that user says it “worked like a charm” during a September trip to Puerto Rico.

WTTC projects over 100m tourism jobs recovered in 2021

Strong summer holiday bookings on the back of global vaccination rollout and widespread pre-departure testing could see more than 100 million jobs return to the global travel and tourism sector this year, according to an optimistic projection by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).

As the sector begins its road to post-pandemic recovery from late March onwards, a strong summer of travel is expected, with many major travel companies reporting a significant rise in forward bookings.

Marriott marches forward in APAC

Marriott International is pushing ahead with its expansion plan in Asia Pacific, with another 100 new properties set to open in the region in 2021.

The pace of growth continues its growth momentum in 2020, which saw 75 new properties launched, including its 800th hotel opening in APAC when JW Marriott Nara opened its doors on 22 July.

InterContinental Hotels Group has signed a management agreement with Minh Dong Travel Service and Trading Company, a member of PGT Group, to open the second Crowne Plaza in Danang come 2023.
