The Standard picks Singapore for its next Asian venture

Standard International will bring The Standard hotel brand to Singapore come 2023, furthering its Asian expansion which includes two upcoming properties in Thailand’s Hua Hin and Bangkok and one in Australia’s Melbourne.

The Standard, Singapore, to be built on Orange Grove Road, will feature 143 guestrooms. It will be one of the few ground-up hotels to be built in proximity to Orchard Road, Singapore’s premier shopping destination.

Marriott International has welcome the debut of the St. Regis Qingdao.

The opening marks the first Marriott luxury brand hotel in the north-eastern Shandong region.

Tom Aikens to launch restaurant in Indonesia at The Langham Jakarta

Muse chef patron Tom Aikens is to open a restaurant in The Langham Jakarta this September.

Called Tom’s, the restaurant will be located on the 62nd floor of the newly-opened hotel and will serve ‘British and French influenced food prepared simply using the best seasonal quality produce’.

Is travel confidence in Asia bouncing back?

Singaporeans’ confidence to travel has risen with the announcement of a possible quarantine-free upon return reality.

According to Finder’s Travel, in June 20.3% of Singaporeans said they plan to travel in the next three months. This shot up to 43.9% in July.

Of this group of potential travellers, those from the 18-24 age bracket are the likeliest to fly with almost half (49.57%) planning at least one trip.

Outrigger acquires trio of Thailand resorts

Outrigger Hospitality Group has completed its purchase of the Manathai Hotels and Resorts brand, inclusive of three beach resorts in southern Thailand.

The former Manathai Koh Samui, Manathai Khao Lak and Manathai Surin Phuket will be refreshed, before rebranding and reopening by year-end as Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort, Outrigger Khao Lak Beach Resort and Phuket Manathai by Outrigger, respectively. The three properties have a combined total of 372 keys.
