Marriott breaks signings, net room growth record in 2023; strong confidence in 2024

Marriott International has ended 2023 on a high note, with a milestone of more than 60 new openings and 80 new deals across Asia-Pacific excluding China. These developments translate to more than 560 operating hotels and residences, exceeding 10 per cent in net room growth compared to 2022, as well as 320 hotels with more than 69,000 rooms in the development pipeline.

Japan’s Select Hotels Group expands to Indonesia

Select Hotels Group has marked out Indonesia as its first market expansion beyond its home base Japan, through a management takeover of 192-room Enso Hotel by Celecton in the industrial area of Cikarang, West Java.

The Japanese hotel company, which was founded in 2005, has 50 hotels in various cities across Japan, ranging from business to luxury categories.

Minor Hotels targets 200+ new openings as it unveils new details of growth strategy

Minor Hotels is targeting more than 200 new openings globally within three years, as the Bangkok-based hotel owner and operator unveils new details of its dynamic commercial strategy for 2024 and beyond.

 

The target for new hotels would increase the group’s global portfolio by almost 40% from its current count of 540 properties, as well as adding more than 30,000 rooms to its present inventory of almost 80,000.

Eastern & Oriental Express is back on track, Belmond’s luxury train returns to Asia

The restored service will be on trains with restyled interiors and elevated on board experiences.

The Eastern & Oriental Express will return to service in February after a four-year gap.

IHG Hotels & Resorts to bring Garner brand to Japan

IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Axe Management Partners to launch its new midscale conversion brand Garner in Japan this year.

The partnership will see Garner make its Japan debut in 2H2024 with three conversion hotels in Osaka, adding more than 500 rooms to IHG’s growing Japan estate.
