APAC hotels deliver weaker performance in Q2

Hotels in the Asia-Pacific region reported negative results across the three key performance metrics during 2Q2019, new market data has shown.

According to STR analysts who sample more than 65,000 hotels and 8.8 million hotel rooms around the globe, total occupancy in the region is down 1.0% to 69.1%. Meanwhile, the average daily rate (ADR) has dipped 0.7% to US$97.32, while the revenue per available room (RevPAR) has declined 1.6% to US$67.25.

Marriott International debuts first tented concept resort, Natra Bintan, a Tribute Portfolio, in Indonesia

Hospitality company Marriott International has introduced Natra Bintan, a glamping destination in Bintan Island, Riau Islands, to its Tribute Portfolio of independent hotels with unique vacation concepts.

Formerly the Canopi Bintan, Natra Bintan is situated at the Chill Cove of Treasure Bay and boasts 100 safari-themed tents. Each tent, measuring over 40 square meters, is furnished with a four-poster bed and comes complete with a lush garden and outdoor patio.

Alila Jakarta has been rebranded to Sparks Luxe

Hotel management company HIM Hospitality introduced Sparks Luxe Jakarta on Jl. Pecenongan on July 14.

Possibly the only sleek hotel in the area, the property first opened 18 years ago as Alila Jakarta, attracting design enthusiasts to come and visit, stay and even hold events.

The recent wave of demonstrations in Hong Kong has deterred travel to the city, but the effect is short-term, according to a report from ForwardKeys.

Wynn Resorts unveils plans for new US$2b complex in Macau

Wynn Resorts has unveiled plans for a US$2 billion expansion of its properties in Macau including new hotel towers, an art museum, and more, Bloomberg reported.

To rise adjacent to the Wynn Palace on the Cotai peninsula, the Crystal Pavilion complex will include two hotel towers, interactive sculptures, gardens and a performance space in a glass and steel structure designed by architect Robert Stern.

Bali & Cambodia ready to crack down on dodgy operators

The Bali administration has vowed to clamp down on illegal Russian tour guides operating on the island, claiming they are “damaging Bali’s tourism image”.

“How could they give details and correct explanations about Balinese culture? They may only tell false stories about Bali to their guests,” Bali Tourism Agency acting head Putu Astawa told The Jakarta Post.

The crackdown follows a report from the Indonesian Tour Guide Association (HPI) Bali, which alleges many Russian nationals worked illegally as tour guides in Bali.
