The Bali administration has vowed to clamp down on illegal Russian tour guides operating on the island, claiming they are “damaging Bali’s tourism image”.

“How could they give details and correct explanations about Balinese culture? They may only tell false stories about Bali to their guests,” Bali Tourism Agency acting head Putu Astawa told The Jakarta Post.

The crackdown follows a report from the Indonesian Tour Guide Association (HPI) Bali, which alleges many Russian nationals worked illegally as tour guides in Bali.

Artotel adds first phinisi yacht to management portfolio

Indonesia’s Artotel Group is making its first foray into phinisi yacht operation, having been appointed by boat owner Siji Sysstima to bring on board its hospitality expertise.

Malaillo, the first phinis to be operated by Artotel Group, is expected to sail Labuan Bajo and Raja Ampat in March 2020. The boat’s name is based on an ancient word used by the Bugis to refer to a never-ending hum.

The Thai government is cracking down against hotel owners for operating without licenses, with the aim of improving standards in the hospitality sector amid a huge influx of non-licensed accommodation that has flooded the market.

On June 12, Thailand’s National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) issued Order No. 6/2562 to temporarily suspend the enforcement of town planning and local building control regulations on certain buildings, built before August 19, 2016, that have been used for hotel business operations.
