Andaz brand debuts in South Korea

Andaz Seoul Gangnam has opened in the South Korean capital, marking the brand’s entry into the country.

The property was designed by Dutch firm Studio Piet Boon. With direct access to Apgujeong metro station and located by a bridge connecting northern and southern Seoul, Andaz Seoul Gangnam’s design fuses traditional local culture and modern living. The hotel’s overall concept was inspired by “bojagi”, a traditional Korean wrapping cloth used in significant ceremonies and as gift wrap to preserve good luck, according to Korean folklore.

Badung implements kost tax and prohibits foreigners staying in them

The controversy over the Badung government’s new boarding house (kost) tax continues. Badung Regent, I Nyoman Giri Prasta, signed off on the new regulation, about submitting, registering and permitting boarding houses to operate, on July 17, 2019. Besides regulating the legalities and the controlling and monitoring aspects, the regulation also states that foreigners are forbidden to stay in boarding houses.

Hotel investment sales in Singapore likely to hit new high in 2019

Singapore is on course to close out 2019 with record high hotel transaction volumes of S$2.5 billion (US$1.8 billion), buoyed by increasing tourist arrivals, infrastructure developments and limited hotel supply, according to JLL.

The latest research from the global real estate consulting firm reveals that Singapore’s hospitality industry has seen an uptick in properties changing hands, including the sale of existing assets and land sites, totalling approximately S$1.7 billion so far this year.

Marriott International expects to more than triple its portfolio in the Philippines within the next five years and roll out five new brands including The Ritz-Carlton, Element and Westin.
