JW Marriott to debut in the Maldives in 2018

The hotel will be on the island of Vagaru, which was originally opened as a Viceroy resort designed by Yabu Pushelberg.

The JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa will open in November 2018 in the Shaviyani Atoll with 61 pool villas, including a four-bedroom Royal Water Villa with nanny’s quarters.

The resort will also feature The Rum Bar & Kitchen, a treetop restaurant serving Thai tapas, expansive wine cellar, open-air cinema, on-site marine biologist and Spa by JW.

Five restaurants are planned in total, including themes such as Japanese teppanyaki, Maldivian curries and Italian bistro, along with a chef’s garden.

Among the other features at JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa will be a cigar room, shisha room, karaoke room and games room.

Meanwhile, Kid’s Club by JW will feature a pirate ship, coral planting, an educational Fauna and Flora corner, arts and crafts, reading areas, kids pools, obstacles and sleep corners.

Marriott International already has several resorts in the Maldives under different brands such as Sheraton, St Regis and W.

The newcomer joins a portfolio of more than 85 JW Marriott hotels in 25 countries; by 2020 the portfolio is expected to hit 115 properties in 35 countries.
