IHG to open first Hotel Indigo in Japan

IHGA Hotels Group Japan—a joint venture between InterContinental Hotels Group and ANA—plans to open Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora, a 100-key hotel in Japan. The company signed an agreement with GHS K.K. and Daiwa House Industry Co. Ltd. to launch the property. The development will be the first Hotel Indigo in Japan and is slated for completion in 2019.

Located just 90 minutes from the heart of Tokyo, the property will be a few minutes away from Gora station on the Hakone Tozan Train and from the Miyaginobashi bus stop on the Hkone Tozan Bus. Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora will offer a mix of rooms and suites, each with an open-air onsen tub on the balcony, or an onsen tub with a view.  Additionally, the hotel will feature a Neighborhood café restaurant, bar, spa treatment rooms and health club.

“One of Japan’s leading hot spring destinations, Hakone really is the perfect first location. With its stunning beauty around scenic Lake Ashi and its captivating history and museums, it exudes a local story, which is what Hotel Indigo is all about,” Hans Heijligers, CEO, IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan, said in a statement.

IHG’s latest international plan is to build a Crowne Plaza hotel on Fiji’s East coast, in Nadi. The company claims the project will be Fiji’s largest of its kind when it opens in 2020.
