Banyan Tree expands its global footprint

Banyan Tree Group, the leading international operator and developer of premium resorts, hotels, residences and spas, announces its continuing global expansion with the successful signing during 2018, of 26 hotel agreements for its four brands.   These are in addition to the current 48 hotels in operation at end 2018, and seven new hotels slated to open in 2019.

LVMH swoops on Belmond’s luxury portfolio

French luxury conglomerate LVMH has agreed to acquire high-end hospitality group Belmond for US$3.2 billion. The deal is expected to close by the first half of 2019.

Belmond’s portfolio spans 46 hotels, restaurants, trains and river cruise ships across 24 countries. Among the group’s more famous holdings are the Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice and the Belmond Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the 21 Club restaurant in New York and Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train service in Europe.

Rosewood Taipei to open in 2024

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has been appointed by Fubon Hospitality Management to manage Rosewood Taipei, set to launch in 2024.

Rosewood Taipei will feature 191 rooms and 27 suites; five restaurant and bars; residential-style meeting and function facilities; Sense, a Rosewood spa with four treatment rooms; an indoor pool and a fitness centre.

Hotel Nikko Bangkok will open on January 16

Hotel Nikko Bangkok will open at Thonglor in Bangkok’s tourist and business centre of Sukhumvit Road on January 16.

The 301-room hotel is owned by Grand Tower Inn Group, which was founded in 1985, initially as an operator of serviced apartments targeting the Japanese corporate sector.

Jo Sato, the hotel’s general manager, said the Thonglor location, with its mix of leisure attractions and its large Japanese community, was perfect for Nikko’s style of courteous Japanese ‘omotenashi’ hospitality.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a US$45 million loan to help Vietnam transform secondary towns into more economically inclusive, competitive tourism destinations.

The Second Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth Project will construct climate-resilient transport and urban infrastructure needed to boost tourist arrivals and tourism services investment in Hoa Binh, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces.
