Urban Resort Concepts to expand portfolio in China, Japan

Hong Kong-based Urban Resort Concepts (URC) is leveraging on Chinese demand for luxury hotel and resort experiences to “selectively grow its portfolio with owners” beyond the region.

The hotel management, technical services, master planning, hospitality advisory and consultancy services company has projects in various stages of development in Moganshan, Shenzhen and Pudong Shanghai in China; and in Kyoto and Tokyo in Japan.

IHG Hotels & Resorts has confirmed a second Kimpton hotel in Thailand, with the new property set to rise in Koh Samui later this year.

Rosewood to make Japan debut in Okinawa

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts will open its first property in Japan on Mikayo Island in the Okinawan archipelago come 2024.

The 55-villa, ultra-luxury resort Rosewood Miyakojima will occupy a secluded peninsula surrounded by white sand beaches, rock formations and ocean vistas. Each of the resort’s villas will feature private pools, landscaped gardens and unobstructed sea views.

Royal Caribbean’s new mega-ship to set sail in 2022 in Asia

Royal Caribbean’s new and fifth Oasis Class ship, Wonder of the Seas, is set to make its debut in March 2022, sailing from Shanghai and Hong Kong on four- to nine-day voyages through the Far East to Japan.

Nightlife brand Tao Group acquires Hakkasan

Dining and nightlife brand Tao Group Hospitality has acquired Hakkasan Group, the entertainment chains announced Wednesday.

The newly formed hospitality group operates 61 dining and nightlife venues in 22 markets across five continents, with brands including Tao, Beauty & Essex, Hakkasan, Yauatcha and more.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
