Banyan Tree to introduce its first Singapore resort

Banyan Tree Holdings announced this week its first Singapore resort, which will feature 338 eco-friendly rooms on a 4.6 hectare site within the Mandai Precinct. This includes 24 elevated tree houses in the heart of Singapore’s tropical rainforest.

The resort will be operated by Banyan Tree and owned by Mandai Park Holdings (MPH).

During a media briefing at the Wildlife Reserves Singapore’s Singapore Zoo on Thursday, Mike Barclay, CEO of MPH, said the accommodation will allow visitors to fully explore the attractions of the Mandai Precinct, a process that takes two to three days. Guests at the resort will also enjoy curated programmes, such as nature walks, conservation talks, as well as behind the scenes tours.

Ho Kwon Ping, executive chairman of Banyan Tree, said that the resort will allow visitors to gain unprecedented access to nature. “It is truly a contribution to all Singaporeans who do not have the opportunity to go to distant countries and interact with nature,” she said.

To minimise the impact of the resort on its surrounding nature, rooms are elevated four metres above the ground wherever possible to allow native wildlife to move across the site. Before working on the site, MPH also conducted a series of shepherding exercises for terrestrial animals and extensive surveys for rare animals.

The resort is set to open in 2023.
