Bali Tourism, quantity at the expense of quality

Beritabali.com reports that Bank Indonesia warns that rapid increases in the number of foreign tourists to Bali are happening simultaneously with an equally dramatic drop in the average quality of tourist visitors.
Bank Indonesia says that the 4.9 million foreign tourists who visited Bali in 2016 represented a 22.25% increase year on year. The significant surge in Mainland Chinese tourists has put that market into the top position as a source of foreign visitors, displacing Australia from the post position held for many of years.

The decline in quality, according to Bank Indonesia, is reflected in the shorter average period of stay for foreign visitors in Bali. In 2014, the average-length-of-stay stood at 3.3 days, reducing in 2015 to 3.08 days. In 2016, the average-length-of-stay declined to 2.93 days.

Similarly, the average spends per day for tourists are also on the decline. In 2012, visitors to Bali spent an average US$159.35 on each day of their visit. In 2016, the average spend declined to US$143.45 per day per tourist visitor.
