Airbnb – the online booking company offering short term rental of homes, apartments, home stays and hotel rooms is coming to the aid of evacuees from the Mt. Agung volcano offering free accommodation to Bali residents displaced by the current threat of an eruption.

Kompas.com has established a disaster mitigation service through its online application.

Airbnb’s manager for Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Robin Kwok, announced on Thursday, September 28, 2017: “Today, Airbnb has activated its disaster mitigation facility to help local residents affected by volcanic activity in Bali. This facility is available free-of-charge until October 11, 2017.

The disaster mitigation facility of Airbnb was first used by the online accommodation provide in 2012 in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The special facility allows people to donate rooms or houses for use by evacuees on a temporary basis.

Robin Kwok told how Airbnb has also assisted in locating donated accommodation for victims of Hurricane Harvey and more than 1,000 homes in Texas and Louisiana for those made homeless by natural disasters.

Kwok told the press that Airbnb was doing what it can to support the emergency response to natural disasters.

He urged people in Bali prepared to offer accommodation to evacuees or those working to provide aid to the victims of disaster via a Special Link .

Owners of accommodation will also be given “free advertisements” for donating accommodation in the “Open Homes” program. Donators of accommodation can stipulate the specific period they are prepared to donate free housing for natural disaster victims.
